Online play and fair play

Graphics only. Nothing else.

MXB Evolved changes how MX Bikes looks on your screen. It doesn't change how the game plays, what it sends to a server, or what you can see compared with other riders. These are the project's hard rules: a feature that would break one of them isn't shipped.

  • Never touches the game's code, memory or files

It only changes what passes through OpenGL on its way to your graphics driver (shader text, matrices, which buffer the scene is drawn into) and draws its own effects. It never writes into the game, never hooks the game's functions and never edits mxbikes.exe or any game file on disk.

  • No network traffic

MXB Evolved sends nothing over the network. Your game sends exactly what a stock game sends, so a server can't tell the difference.

  • No gameplay changes

Physics, input, timing, penalties, race rules and collisions are untouched. Weather is visual only: rain and snow never change grip.

  • Fog only gets thicker

The track's fog can be scaled from 1 to 3, never below 1. Haze and weather only ever add to what the track already has.

  • Nothing is revealed

It never hides riders, objects or fog that the stock game shows, and doesn't change the camera or the field of view. Other riders see and experience nothing different.

  • Fails stock

On a game build it doesn't recognise, or any state it doesn't expect, it switches its effects off, writes why in its log and passes every call through unchanged. It must never crash the game.

  • One switch turns it all off

Every effect has its own setting; Ctrl+F10 switches all of them off live, and enabled=0 makes it a plain pass-through.

  • No anti-cheat or DRM tricks

No detection evasion, no tampering with Steam or the game's copy protection. It starts working only after the game has started normally.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Online

Can I use it on regular servers?

It's built for exactly that: it changes only your own picture and sends nothing over the network, so to a server you look like any stock player. A full test session on a stock dedicated server is still on the to-do list before release.

Does it give me an advantage?

No. Fog can only get thicker, nothing the stock game shows is ever hidden or thinned out, and the camera and field of view stay the game's own. The effects make the picture look more real; they don't let you see more.

Does it change anything for other riders?

No. It runs only on your PC and never touches the network, so nobody else sees or feels any difference.

What happens when MX Bikes updates?

If the game's build doesn't match what MXB Evolved knows, it switches its effects off and the game runs stock until MXB Evolved is updated for it.

Using it

Will it lower my frame rate?

Some, depending on your graphics card and settings. In the developer's test sessions the effects took about 0.4 ms of GPU time per frame, and the log writes the exact cost on your PC every minute. The F8 menu has Performance, Balanced, Quality and Ultra presets, and every effect can be switched off.

Can I use it with ReShade?

Not both as opengl32.dll: only one file with that name fits in the game folder. MXB Evolved also logs a warning when it finds overlays or injectors that could clash with it.

Will antivirus or Windows flag it?

Some antivirus tools are wary of any opengl32.dll in a game folder, because files that load into games can be misused. MXB Evolved only draws graphics and doesn't need admin rights.

How do I uninstall it?

Close the game and delete opengl32.dll from the MX Bikes folder. See the install guide.

The project

Where can I get it?

Right here, once it's ready. MXB Evolved is still being finished and will be sold on this site.

Right here: buy it on the home page. You get a personal download page, and it works on any PC with your Steam account.

Is this official?

No. MXB Evolved is an independent mod and isn't affiliated with PiBoSo, the developer of MX Bikes.

Is it related to MXS Reborn?

Yes, it comes from the same developer and follows the same idea and rules as MXS Reborn, the graphics mod for MX Simulator, rebuilt for MX Bikes. The features page shows how far that has got.
